Alberta is getting closer to putting its name on the world whisky map.
With the provincial government now working on an official Alberta Whisky Act - a legal definition that would set the standards for what can be called “Alberta whisky” - a new initiative is already taking shape to bring distillers and visitors together: The Alberta Whisky Trail.
Built to become the province’s official tourism and industry hub, the Alberta Whisky Trail website brings together everything whisky lovers, travellers, and local producers need in one place. The platform features a growing list of Alberta distilleries, an interactive map, government-aligned marketing, and a clear focus on helping define what “Alberta whisky” truly means.
Inspired by globally successful experiences like the Kentucky Bourbon Trail, the Alberta Whisky Trail aims to showcase the province’s award-winning spirits, world-class barley and rye, dramatic landscapes, and emerging whisky culture. As Alberta’s legislation moves forward, the trail is positioning itself to become the unified voice and destination for anyone seeking authentic, locally crafted whisky.
Whether you’re a visitor planning a tasting adventure, a local exploring the province’s craft scene, or a producer looking to align with future provincial standards, the Alberta Whisky Trail is designed to guide the journey. The trail may not be official yet, but it’s already building the momentum to become the go-to source for everything Alberta whisky.
