What is Alberta Whisky?
Alberta whisky is a new provincial designation that recognizes distilleries committed to producing whisky entirely within Alberta, using local ingredients and defined production standards.
To qualify, Alberta whisky must:
- Be produced and aged in Alberta for a minimum of 3 years in small wood barrels
- Be made with 100% Alberta water
- Use at least 66.7% Alberta-grown grains
- Be bottled at 40% ABV or higher
This designation is voluntary, allowing distillers the freedom to innovate while offering consumers a trusted mark of authenticity and origin.
